«Historia de las tierras y los lugares legendarios» is Umberto Eco's illustrated essay, published by Lumen in hardback (480 pages, in Spanish).
Umberto Eco explores the imaginary territories once believed to be real, from Atlantis to the subterranean kingdom of Agartha, with stops such as El Dorado or the Fortunate Isles. He examines how their legends arose, how artists depicted them, and how they drove real journeys and explorations.
The translation from Italian is by Maria Pons Irazazábal; the Spanish edition was published in 2013 in the Narrativa collection.
Aimed at readers of essays, mythology, and cultural history, and at followers of Umberto Eco's work.
Umberto Eco was an Italian medievalist, philosopher, semiotician, novelist, cultural critic, and political and social commentator. In English, he is best known for his popular 1980 novel The Name of the Rose, a historical mystery combining semiotics in fiction with biblical analysis, medieval studies and literary theory, as well as Foucault's Pendulum, his 1988 novel which touches on the history of occultism and its contemporary interpretation through the new age movement.
