«Han quemado el mar» is the children's and young adult novel by Gabriel Janer Manila, published by Edebé in paperback (88 pages, in Spanish).
The narrative takes place in a country ravaged by war: a boy is born after the death of his father, Yasín, a musician and poet who told ancient legends and never got to know him. His grandmother Hafida passes on the stories of that legendary land while bombs fall on Basra and Baghdad. The work is a tale about oral tradition, loss and hope.
The work is number 15 in the Periscopio collection and won the National Prize for Children's and Young Adult Literature in 1994. The original title of the work is «Han cremat el mar».
The work is recommended for young people aged 14 and over and for readers interested in stories about memory, war and oral tradition.
