«Fuenteovejuna» is the play by Lope de Vega, published by Editorial Juventud in paperback (302 pages, in Spanish), with «El villano en su rincón».
Fuenteovejuna shows the rebellion of a people against a tyrannical commander, in a plea for justice and honour. «El villano en su rincón» presents Juan Labrador, a peasant who, discovered by the king, does not adapt to the court because he longs for his land and his freedom. Two works that vindicate dignity against oppression.
This edition from the Z (Classics) collection brings together both works and includes a prologue and notes by Juan Alcina Franch.
For readers interested in Spanish classical theatre and Golden Age literature.
Spanish playwright and poet of the Golden Age, author of Fuente Ovejuna, The Knight from Olmedo and The Dog in the Manger.
