«Fuente Ovejuna» is a play from the Spanish Golden Age written by Félix Lope de Vega, published by Anaya in paperback (93 pages, in Spanish).
The action takes place in a village in Córdoba, where the commander Fernán Gómez de Guzmán rules with violence and abuse of power. Faced with his outrages, the villagers rise up as one and place collective honour and the defence of freedom against tyranny at the centre.
The play was published in 1619 and is inspired by a historical event that took place in Fuente Obejuna (Córdoba) in 1476. This edition is part of Anaya's Biblioteca Básica collection.
Recommended for students and for readers new to classical Spanish theatre.

Félix Lope de Vega y Carpio was a Spanish playwright, poet, and novelist who was a key figure in the Spanish Golden Age (1492–1659) of Baroque literature. In the literature of Spain, Lope de Vega is often considered second only to Miguel de Cervantes. Cervantes said that Lope de Vega was “The Phoenix of Wits” and “Monster of Nature”.
