«Evangeli gris» is the historical novel by Vicenç Villatoro, published by Edicions Proa in 1982, in paperback (204 pages, in Catalan).
The novel is set in the Jewish quarter of Girona at the end of the 14th century, when the expulsion of the Jews takes place, and follows a fugitive boy who travels the country seeking a peaceful life and his own identity. The narrative adopts a lyrical tone to convey the harshness and intolerance of that historical episode.
The novel won the Premi Sant Jordi 1981. This work belongs to the Biblioteca A tot vent collection (no. 200). The prologue is by Joan Triadú.
The work is for readers of historical fiction interested in late medieval Catalonia and the history of Jewish communities.
