«European Poems & Transitions» is Lawrence Ferlinghetti's book of poems, published by New Directions, in paperback (128 pages, in English).
The book brings together poems on European themes, mostly written in the preceding seven years, conceived as transitions towards America. The journey goes from France to Italy, the Netherlands, Germany and back to France, with a cohesive progression. Ferlinghetti engages with the literary tradition, portrays the everyday and closes before a nuclear future.
The work was first published in 1984 under the title Over All the Obscene Boundaries and received the California Book Award in the poetry category.
Aimed at poetry readers and an academic or professional audience interested in American literature.
