«Enligt Maria Magdalena» is the historical novel by Marianne Fredriksson, published by Wahlström & Widstrand in hardback (255 pages, in Swedish).
The novel gives voice to Mary Magdalene, the most prominent of Jesus's disciples, and strips away the myth to show her as a woman with her own past, present and future. Her testimony, narrated in retrospect, offers her interpretation of Jesus and Christianity, with a female perspective on the origins of that faith.
It is Marianne Fredriksson's tenth novel, originally published in 1997; this hardback edition includes a map on the endpapers.
For readers of historical and religious fiction, with an interest in female reinterpretations of the gospels and in Scandinavian narrative.
Marianne Fredriksson was a Swedish author who worked and lived in Roslagen and Stockholm. Before becoming a novelist, she was a journalist for various Swedish newspapers and magazines, including Svenska Dagbladet.
