«El vigilant en el camp de sègol» is the novel by J. D. Salinger, published by Editorial Empúries in paperback (224 pages, in Catalan).
The protagonist, Holden Caulfield, narrates in the first person the days following his expulsion from school as he wanders through New York. Amid encounters and memories, he ironically criticises the hypocrisy of the adult world and reflects on identity, belonging and the loss of innocence. The work has become a benchmark in fiction about adolescence.
Work originally published in English in 1951 under the title The Catcher in the Rye. This Catalan edition, translated by Ernest Riera Arbussà, was published in 1998 and belongs to the L'Odissea collection.
Common reading among teenagers and adults; its protagonist is an icon of youthful rebellion.
