El sol bajo la seda

Synopsis of El sol bajo la seda

In the 17th-century Duchy of Lorraine, Nicolas Déruet, a jailed surgeon, is exiled to the army and expands his medical knowledge. Upon his return, he works at Saint-Charles Hospital, defending his profession. The novel narrates his destiny, from the fields of Lorraine to the royal palaces, torn between his passion for surgery and his love for two different women: the midwife Marianne Pajot and the Marchioness of Cornelli. A fascinating historical fresco about the rivalry between doctors and surgeons in 18th-century Europe.
