«Egipto» is the novel by Manuel Pérez Subirana, shortlisted for the Herralde Novel Prize, published by Anagrama in hardback (256 pages).
Roberto Brest, a doctor and factory worker who does not write, feels trapped in a grey life. The memory of a suicide in Cairo, after a football defeat, drives him to change and to start a diary called Egipto. That search confronts him with precariousness, relationship problems, alcoholism and a project of dubious legality.
It belongs to the Narrativas hispánicas collection (no. 387); Anagrama published it in Barcelona in 2005.
For readers of contemporary fiction and Spanish narrative looking for a novel about personal transformation.
