«Cinco horas con Mario» is the psychological novel by Miguel Delibes, published by Destino in paperback (296 pages, in Spanish).
Carmen, a conservative upper-middle-class woman, keeps vigil through the night over the corpse of her husband, Mario, and reads the passages he underlined in his bedside Bible. This gesture triggers an interior monologue full of reproaches and memories that portrays their marriage, the ideological differences between them, and the provincial Spanish society of the time.
This 1981 edition belongs to the Destinolibro collection, number 144; the novel was originally published in 1966.
For readers of contemporary Spanish fiction and twentieth-century classics interested in an intimate portrait of Spanish society.
