«Buñuel in the Labyrinth of the Turtles» is the biographical graphic novel by Fermín Solís, published by Reservoir Books in hardback (160 pages, in Spanish).
The work recreates the filming of Las Hurdes, tierra sin pan, the documentary that Luis Buñuel shot in Extremadura in 1932 and which ended up becoming a cursed film. Fermín Solís portrays Luis Buñuel divided between art for art's sake and cinema as a tool to transform society, with difficulties and surreal episodes during the shoot.
The graphic novel was originally published in 2008; this 2019 edition brings it back in full colour within the Reservoir Gráfica collection. The work was a finalist for the National Comic Award.
This graphic novel is recommended for readers aged 16 and over with an interest in Luis Buñuel, the history of cinema and biographies in comics.
