«A Montanha e o Rio» is the historical novel by Da Chen, published by Nova Fronteira in paperback (493 pages, in Brazilian Portuguese).
During the Chinese Cultural Revolution, General Ding Long has two sons from different mothers: Tan, privileged in Beijing; Shento, son of a peasant woman who died in childbirth, raised in the mountains and in an orphanage. Without knowing each other, their lives collide in late-20th-century China, where political rivalry and love for the same woman set them against each other.
The work was originally published as «Brothers» and won the Asian/Pacific American Award for Literature in the adult fiction category (2006).
For readers of historical fiction and family sagas with a Chinese political and cultural backdrop.
