The author recounts her confinement for 3096 days in a basement of about five square metres, her relationship with her captor, the physical and psychological abuse, and how she managed to survive until escaping in August 2006.
The work was originally published in German as «3096 Tage»; this French edition is a translation by Olivier Mannoni and Leïla Pellissier and consists of 307 pages.

Natascha Maria Kampusch is an Austrian author and former talk show host. At the age of 10, on 2 March 1998, she was abducted and held in a secret cellar by her kidnapper, Wolfgang Přiklopil, for more than eight years, until she escaped on 23 August 2006. Upon her escape, Přiklopil died by suicide by train at a nearby station. She has written a book about her ordeal, 3,096 Days (2010), which was later adapted into a film that was released in 2013.
