She wrote the first draft of Divergent during a winter break while studying creative writing at Northwestern University.
Divergent was published on 3 May 2011 and quickly hit the New York Times bestseller list.
The trilogy continues with Insurgent (2012) and Allegiant (2013) and has sold over 35 million copies worldwide.
The film adaptation Divergent was released in 2014, starring Shailene Woodley and Theo James.
