Theodore Sturgeon was an American author of primarily fantasy, science fiction, and horror, as well as a critic. He wrote approximately 400 reviews and more than 120 short stories, 11 novels, and two scripts for Star Trek: The Original Series.

Born Edward Hamilton Waldo, he legally changed his name in 1929 to honor his mother's surname.

Before turning to literature, Sturgeon dreamed of being a circus acrobat, but rheumatic fever ended those plans.

His prolific career includes over 170 works, ranging from science fiction to literary criticism.

He published some of his early pulp stories under the pseudonym E. Waldo Hunter.

His masterpiece, More Than Human, is a fundamental pillar of 20th-century American science fiction.
