Born in Cádiz, Spain, on 23 January 1962, but grew up in Madrid.
Manolito Gafotas first appeared on Spanish national radio (RNE) in 1988 before becoming a book in 1994.
She won the Spanish National Award for Children's and Young Adult Literature in 1998 for 'Los trapos sucios'.
She won the Biblioteca Breve Prize in 2005 for 'Una palabra tuya'.
She is married to the writer and journalist Antonio Muñoz Molina.
