«Zo hoog de zon stond» is the short novel by Simone Atangana Bekono, published by De Arbeiderspers in paperback (96 pages, in Dutch).
Sonny, an artist, returns to her hometown for a photographic series and, with her friend Myrthe, looks after the latter's family home. Sheltering from a heatwave, their cohabitation turns murky: the wine, the insomnia and Myrthe's unpredictable behaviour blur reality, while the house seems to hold them back.
