«War Horse» is the children's and young adult novel by Michael Morpurgo, published by Egmont Books in paperback (192 pages, in English).
Set during the First World War, it tells the story of Joey, a horse sold to the army who experiences the conflict from both sides of the trenches. Amid bombardments and cavalry charges, Joey crosses paths with soldiers and civilians who show the best and worst of humanity, in a tale about friendship and loyalty in the midst of violence.
«War Horse» was adapted into film by Steven Spielberg and into theatre by the National Theatre, which premiered it in 2007.
Recommended for young readers from around 10 years old interested in the First World War and animal stories.

Sir Michael Andrew Bridge Morpurgo is an English book author, poet, playwright, and librettist who is known best for children's novels such as War Horse (1982). His work is noted for its "magical storytelling", for recurring themes such as the triumph of an outsider or survival, for characters' relationships with nature, and for vivid settings such as the Cornish coast or the trenches of the First World War. Morpurgo was the third Children's Laureate, from 2003 to 2005, and is President of BookTrust, a children's reading charity.
