«Vidas escritas» is a book of literary portraits by Javier Marías, published by Punto de Lectura in paperback (361 pages, in Spanish).
Twenty celebrated writers, from Faulkner to Nabokov —Conrad, Joyce, Stevenson, Wilde—, are portrayed in sketches that read like stories, with irony and affection. The volume adds six portraits of «fugitive women» and closes with «Artistas perfectos», a gallery of images of gestures and faces. The texts include portraits from the author's collection.
For readers of essays and biography interested in nineteenth- and twentieth-century writers and in Javier Marías's literary gaze.
