«Una volta al món» is a picture book by Joseba Sarrionandia, published by Kalandraka in hardback (160 pages, in Catalan).
A girl asks her grandmother, a history teacher, to tell her a true story. The grandmother narrates Magellan and Elcano's first circumnavigation of the world; with tenderness and humour, the dialogue addresses power, inequality, racism, historical memory and globalisation. The illustrations by Arístides Hernández (ARES) complete the book.
Translation from Basque into Catalan by Pau Joan Hernàndez. Part of the Tiramilles collection.
Recommended for readers aged 11 and up, both young and adult, for its blend of history, humour and social reflection.
