«Un long chemin vers la liberté» is Nelson Mandela's autobiography, published by Le Livre de Poche in paperback (767 pages, in French).
Mandela recounts his life from his childhood in Transkei and his education, through his career as a lawyer in Johannesburg and his role in the African National Congress, to his twenty-seven years in prison and his release in 1990. The book describes the struggle against apartheid, the years of confinement on Robben Island, and the negotiations that led to historic change in South Africa. It is also a testimony to the long road that culminated in his election as the country's president.
Work published in 1996 within the Le Livre de Poche collection. It is the French translation of the autobiography «Long Walk to Freedom», originally written in English and published in 1994.
Recommended for readers interested in the history of South Africa, the struggle against apartheid, and biographies of twentieth-century political leaders.

Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela was a South African anti-apartheid activist, statesman, and revolutionary who was the first president of South Africa from 1994 to 1999. He was the country's first Black head of state and the first elected in a fully representative democratic election. His administration focused on dismantling the legacy of apartheid by fostering racial reconciliation, a national peace accord and eventual multiracial democracy. Ideologically an African nationalist and socialist, he served as the president of the African National Congress (ANC) party from 1991 to 1997.
