«Un long chemin vers la liberté» is Nelson Mandela's autobiography, published by Fayard in paperback (666 pages, in French).
An autobiography born from the memories Mandela wrote in secret on Robben Island. It recounts his childhood in the Transkei, his work as a lawyer, his activism in the African National Congress, and the struggle against apartheid, through the prison years and the negotiations that transformed South Africa.
This French edition, published in 1995, corresponds to the English original «Long Walk to Freedom» and belongs to the series of the same name.
For readers interested in the history of South Africa and the memoirs of twentieth-century political figures.

Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela was a South African anti-apartheid activist, statesman, and revolutionary who was the first president of South Africa from 1994 to 1999. He was the country's first Black head of state and the first elected in a fully representative democratic election. His administration focused on dismantling the legacy of apartheid by fostering racial reconciliation, a national peace accord and eventual multiracial democracy. Ideologically an African nationalist and socialist, he served as the president of the African National Congress (ANC) party from 1991 to 1997.
