«Ulises y Penélope» is the historical novel by Inge Merkel, published by Ediciones B in hardback (427 pages, in Spanish).
Penelope, daughter of a naiad, wants a home, children, and an intelligent husband; Ulysses seeks a suitable wife. Chance imposes opposite destinies on them: he sets off on adventure and she lives years of abandonment, besieged by suitors. The novel interweaves the Iliad and the Odyssey to show the heroism of one who made waiting an art.
Published in 1996 in Barcelona, first edition, translated by Isi Feuerhake from the German original «Eine ganz gewöhnliche Ehe».
For those seeking literary reinterpretations of classical myths and a vision centred on the figure of Penelope.
