«Tristes trópicos» is the autobiographical essay by Claude Lévi-Strauss, published by Ediciones Paidós in paperback (528 pages, in Spanish).
Classic work of anthropology in which Levi-Strauss reconstructs his travels and fieldwork in Brazil and other regions, and reflects on what it means to be an ethnologist: how the explorer's adventure, the scientist's research and personal memory combine. Through this journey between Asia and America, the author presents an intellectual autobiography that examines the relationship between the old and new worlds, the place of the human being in nature, and the meaning of civilisation and progress.
This Spanish edition is part of the Surcos collection, number 24, published by Ediciones Paidós in 2006. Translation by Noelia Bastard.
Aimed at readers interested in anthropology, social sciences and classic twentieth-century essays.
