«Tiempo de silencio» is the novel by Luis Martín-Santos, published by Planeta in hardback (252 pages, in Spanish).
Pedro, a young researcher in postwar Madrid, is swept along by a succession of events that expose the material and moral misery of Francoist Spain. The city is both setting and character: the narrative moves through its marginal neighbourhoods, social hypocrisy and the anguish of a society closed in on itself.
Originally published in 1962, this 1996 edition is part of the «Nuestros clásicos contemporáneos» collection.
A work often cited as one of the great Spanish novels of the twentieth century, intended for readers of classic fiction and social novels.
