«Thérèse Desqueyroux» is the novel by François Mauriac published by Editorial Hugin e Munin in paperback (136 pages, in Galician).
Thérèse, orphaned of her mother and raised without affection, marries a petty bourgeois from the Landes. When she tries to poison her husband, the family becomes her prison: she sacrifices her happiness for social conventions. Ellipsis, interior monologue and a dense style explore guilt, isolation and female punishment.
Work originally published in 1927; François Mauriac received the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1952. Galician translation by Xavier Senín Fernández. Number 82 of the Xeral collection.
