«The Snapper» is Roddy Doyle's comic novel, published by 10/18 in paperback (248 pages, in French).
The novel follows the Rabbitte family, an Irish household as chaotic as it is endearing, when the eldest daughter, Sharon, announces she is pregnant. The news unleashes questions and tensions: everyone wants to know which of the family's friends is the father, while the intimacy of the home becomes stranger than ever.
Second instalment of the Barrytown trilogy, between The Commitments and The Van. The original was published in 1990; this French edition is from 1997. The novel was adapted as a TV film in 1993.
Recommended for readers of comedy and contemporary Irish fiction, and for those following the Barrytown trilogy.
