«The Bear Under the Stairs» is the children's picture book by Helen Cooper, published by Corgi Childrens in paperback (39 pages, in English).
William is the only one who knows about the bear hiding under the stairs in his house; or at least he is sure he has seen it lurking around there. With warm illustrations and a poetic tone, this story addresses childhood fears and shows how imagination can turn them into something familiar and surmountable.
It belongs to the Mini Treasure collection and won the Smarties Prize (Young Judges' Award) in 1993.
Recommended for children aged 2 to 6, especially for those beginning to face their own fears.
