«Terroni» is Pino Aprile's historical essay on the north-south conflict in Italy, published by Piemme in paperback (303 pages, in Italian).
The essay revisits Italian unification to expose facts that nationalist rhetoric would have ignored or distorted and that explain the marginalisation of southern Italy. Pino Aprile argues that the north-south conflict, fuelled by political interests, remains unresolved a century and a half later, and asks why the gap persists.
Full title: «Terroni. Tutto quello che è stato fatto perché gli italiani del Sud diventassero “meridionali”». 2013 edition, in Piemme's Pickwick collection.
