«Tartufo. Don Juan o El Convidado de Piedra» is the theatre volume by Molière, published by Espasa-Calpe in paperback (160 pages, in Spanish).
It brings together two comedies by Molière premiered in the 17th century and censored in their time. 'Tartufo' satirises religious hypocrisy through an impostor who insinuates himself into a bourgeois household. 'Don Juan o El convidado de piedra' presents a libertine nobleman who defies authority and convention.
This volume is no. 948 of the Austral Collection, with translations by Carlos M. Princivalle (Tartufo) and A. Cebrián (Don Juan).
Recommended for readers of classical theatre, students of French literature and anyone wishing to discover two essential titles by Molière.
Jean-Baptiste Poquelin, known by his stage name Molière, was a French playwright, actor, and poet, widely regarded as one of the great writers in the French language and world literature. His extant works include comedies, farces, tragicomedies, comédie-ballets, and more. His plays have been translated into every major living language and are performed at the Comédie-Française more often than those of any other playwright today. His influence is such that the French language is often referred to as the "language of Molière".
