«Schwester» is the novel by Keto von Waberer published by Berlin Verlag in hardback (167 pages, in German).
The younger sister reconstructs, after the death of the elder sister, a relationship marked by attention and indifference, complicity and hostility, love and hate. The elder sister, allied with the mother, embodies bourgeois respectability; the younger, less conformist, takes the father's side. Without a precise temporal sequence, the narrator arranges her memories: childhood games, first loves and a small incident that reveals their profound difference. The author draws on her own family history and wrote this novel after the creative block caused by her sister's death.
The edition dates from 2002 and was published in Berlin; the ISBN-10 is 3827004853.
For readers proficient in German looking for literary fiction about memory and the bonds between sisters.
