«Poil de Carotte» is the children's and young adult novel by Jules Renard, published by Gallimard Jeune in paperback (223 pages, in French).
Little François Lepic, nicknamed Poil de Carotte for his red hair and freckles, has a difficult childhood due to his mother's unfair punishments; she prefers his brother Félix and his sister Ernestine. The novel portrays with sober style the loneliness of a tender child who seems clumsy and cannot express his affection.
This special edition from the Folio Junior collection includes a 32-page supplement with games, tests and observation exercises; the work was originally published in 1894.
Recommended for readers aged 6 to 9, especially for children starting to read in French.
Pierre-Jules Renard was a French author and member of the Académie Goncourt, most famous for the works Poil de carotte and Les Histoires Naturelles. Among his other works are Le Plaisir de rompre and the posthumously published Huit Jours à la campagne.
