«Nove Noites» is the novel by Brazilian writer Bernardo Carvalho, published by Cotovia in paperback (226 pages, in Portuguese).
The novel reconstructs the suicide of American anthropologist Buell Quain in the interior of Brazil in 1939, a real case that Carvalho blends with fiction. The narrator, obsessed with that death, searches for an eighth letter he believes existed, while identity, memory and the clash between cultures emerge.
Originally published in 2002, it received the Portugal Telecom Literature Prize in 2003 and belongs to the Sabiá collection.
For readers of contemporary fiction interested in Brazilian literature and in stories that combine real cases, memory and investigation.
