«Mr. Witt en el Cantón» is the novel by Ramón J. Sender, published in 1984 by Círculo de Lectores in paperback (238 pages, in Spanish).
Set in Cartagena in 1873-1874, the novel follows Mr. Witt, an embodiment of Englishness in international relations, and Milagritos Rueda, whose generosity and commitment reflect the popular atmosphere of the revolutionary cycle. The couple's emotional wear is intertwined with the failed cantonal insurrection and Sender's ideals before the civil war.
Originally published in 1935, this edition includes an introduction by Rafael Conte. The work won the National Narrative Prize in 1935.
