«Mefisto» is the satirical novel by Klaus Mann, published by Plaza & Janés in paperback (352 pages, in Spanish).
Written during Klaus Mann's exile, the work portrays the atmosphere of Nazi Germany through Hendrik Hofgen, an actor who manages to rise socially to rub shoulders with the elite of the Third Reich. The novel satirizes the opportunism and complicity of those who made deals with the regime, and explores ambition, power, and human baseness, with a background inspired by the author's brother-in-law.
Klaus Heinrich Thomas Mann was a German writer and anti-fascist activist. He was the son of Thomas Mann, a nephew of Heinrich Mann and brother of Erika Mann and Golo Mann.
