«Madera de héroe» is the novel by Miguel Delibes, published by Destino in paperback (440 pages, in Spanish).
Gervasio, a teenager marked by the Spanish Civil War, grows up convinced by his family that he is destined to be a hero. Amid the chaos of the conflict, he discovers that the line between heroism and betrayal is far more blurred than he thought, and Delibes uses that experience to offer a reflection on war and its effects on young people.
The novel was originally published under the title «377A, madera de héroe» and belongs to the Áncora y Delfín collection from Ediciones Destino.
