In 'Los viejos amigos', Rafael Chirbes introduces us to a group of old comrades gathered for a dinner, evoking a past where they shared a revolutionary ideal. Years later, they face the mirror of time, revealing lives marked by guilt, disillusionment, and betrayal. Through the voices of a builder, a painter, a teacher, an advertising executive, and a failed novelist, Chirbes weaves a network of crossed lives that explore the human condition and the contradictions between ideological aspirations and personal miseries. This novel invites reflection on the individual's ability to influence history and the complexities of memory.

Rafael Chirbes was a Spanish novelist. He was born in Tavernes de la Valldigna in Valencia. He is the author of several novels, two of which have won the Premio de la Crítica de narrativa castellana - Crematorio (2007) and En la orilla (2013). The latter also won the Premio Nacional de Narrativa.
