«Los dioses de sí mismos» is the political novel by J. J. Armas Marcelo, published by Plaza & Janés Editores in hardback (462 pages, in Spanish).
The plot spans from 1968 to 1988 and follows the generation of Spaniards who fought against Francoism and, once democracy was restored, came to power. Their ideals and ambitions are transformed over the years, in a portrait of the ideologies of the Transition in which some end up harmed and others achieve a contradictory power.
Winner of the 5th Plaza & Janés International Novel Prize. Published in 1989, first edition.
Recommended for readers of contemporary Spanish fiction and for those seeking a novelistic approach to the Transition.
