«Los de Bilbao nacen donde quieren» is the novel by María Larrea, published by Alianza Editorial in paperback (200 pages, in Spanish).
In 1943, a prostitute from Bilbao hands her newborn son to some Jesuits; shortly after, in Galicia, another woman abandons her daughter in a convent. From these two events, María Larrea reconstructs backwards a family story marked by illegal adoptions and the final years of Francoism, until finding in Bilbao the key to her origins.
First novel by María Larrea. Winner of the France Télévisions Best Novel Prize 2023, the Premier Roman Prize 2023 and the Les Inrockuptibles Best Debut Novel Prize.
