«Little Bee» is the novel by Chris Cleave, published by DTV Deutscher Taschenbuch in paperback (316 pages, in German).
Little Bee, a sixteen-year-old Nigerian girl, has been living for two years in a detention centre for asylum seekers in England. Years earlier, in Nigeria, she met the British couple Sarah and Andrew, with whom she became bound by a traumatic experience. When Little Bee leaves the centre and calls Sarah, the call triggers a series of events that lead her to Sarah's doorstep. The novel thus addresses the plight of refugees, guilt and the complexities of survival.
The work was originally published in 2008 under the title «The Other Hand». This German edition of 2012, translated by Susanne Goga-Klinkenberg, includes the subtitle «Roman».
For readers interested in contemporary fiction and in stories about migration, asylum and encounters between cultures.
