«Les ombres errantes» is the literary work by Pascal Quignard, first volume of «Dernier royaume», published by Grasset in paperback (189 pp., in French).
In this first volume of the «Dernier royaume» cycle, Pascal Quignard avoids the moulds of the essay, scattered erudition and the novel to let a fragmentary prose speak. For Pascal Quignard, reading is wandering, and these pages turn like a sleepless head: a vision of the world that the author himself defines as secular and abnormal.
The book was published in 2002 and won the Prix Goncourt that year; it is the first volume of the «Dernier royaume» series.
