«Le tétard mystérieux» is a children's story written and illustrated by Steven Kellogg, published by L'Ecole des Loisirs in paperback (35 pages, in French).
Louis receives a tadpole for his birthday that his Scottish uncle McAllister has taken from Loch Ness. He names it Alphonse, but it is no ordinary tadpole: it grows without stopping and overflows the sink and bathtub at home. With the help of friends and imagination, Louis looks for a place where Alphonse can live; the school pool seems the solution.
French edition published in 2009; the original work, «The Mysterious Tadpole», appeared in English in 1977. The book won the Irma Black Award and was nominated for the California Young Readers Medal.
Aimed at preschool children and early readers; works well as shared reading at home or in the classroom.
Steven Castle Kellogg is an American author and illustrator who has created more than 90 children's books.
