«Le locataire chimérique» is the novel by Roland Topor, published by Editions Phébus in paperback (170 pages, in French).
After moving into a flat whose previous tenant has committed suicide, the protagonist, a shy and peaceful man, becomes the target of a covert hostility from his neighbours. The story oscillates between everyday realism and nightmare in a suffocating atmosphere of paranoia and alienation.
For readers of French literary classics and psychological horror fiction with an oppressive atmosphere.
