«Le Cid» is the tragicomedy by Pierre Corneille published by J'ai lu in paperback (90 pages, in French).
Set in medieval Spain, it tells of the love between Rodrigue and Chimène, broken by an offence that forces the young man to avenge his family's honour. Torn between duty and feeling, both lovers see their relationship compromised. Inspired by the legendary figure of the Cid, the work combines heroism, intrigue and passion.
Tragicomedy in five acts originally published in 1637. This edition from the Librio Théâtre collection includes the complete text in French.
Suitable for students of French literature and for those who enjoy 17th-century classical theatre.
