«Lazarillo de Tormes» is the anonymous Spanish picaresque novel published by Planeta DeAgostini in hardback (160 pages, in Spanish).
Written in the first person as a long letter, it narrates the life of Lázaro de Tormes from his miserable childhood to his marriage in adulthood, always in the service of different masters. The work is considered a precursor of the picaresque novel for its realism, its protagonist of humble origin, and the itinerant portrait of sixteenth-century society.
The oldest known edition dates from 1554.
Readers interested in the classics of Spanish literature and in the origins of the picaresque novel.
