«L'àvia té un amic» is a children's book by Ad Soeters, illustrated by Sol Cots i Serra, published by Cruïlla in paperback (96 pages, in Catalan).
A widowed grandmother leads a grey routine: visits from her children and grandchildren on Sundays are the only thing that cheers her up. On Thursdays she goes to a senior centre to chat, and there she meets Paul. The friendship between them restores her joy, colour and zest for life, and pushes her to make a brave decision.
Volume 35 of the El Barco de Vapor Azul collection. Catalan translation by Auke Oosterhoff; original title: Oma heeft een vriend. Published in 2002.
Recommended for children aged 7 to 9, and for addressing loneliness and friendship among older people in the family.
