«Las cenizas de Ángela» is Frank McCourt's memoir, published by Embolsillo in paperback (488 pages, in Spanish).
Frank McCourt recalls his childhood in Limerick, Ireland, marked by poverty, hunger, an alcoholic father and corporal punishment. Despite the harshness of what he lived through, the account, seen through a child's eyes, brims with humour and tenderness, without hatred or self-pity, and tells how his family manages to get by amid adversity.
It won the Pulitzer Prize in 1997 and is the first volume in Frank McCourt's memoir series. Translation by Alejandro Pareja. Alan Parker adapted the work for film with Emily Watson and Robert Carlyle.
A common choice for book clubs, suitable for readers of memoirs, biographies and Irish literature.
Francis McCourt was an Irish-American teacher and writer. He won a Pulitzer Prize for his book Angela's Ashes, a tragicomic memoir of the misery and squalor of his childhood.
