«Las abejas reina» is the contemporary novel by Gill Hornby, published by Editorial Planeta in paperback (384 pages, in Spanish).
In the town of St. Ambrose, the new school year unleashes rivalry among the school mothers to organise the annual fundraiser and take centre stage. Bea and her group see their prominence threatened by any newcomer, while alliances, jealousies and neighbourhood disputes surface with irony.
The work, originally published as «The Hive» and translated by Ana Isabel Sánchez, was nominated for the Guardian First Book Award in 2013 and is part of the Planeta Internacional collection.
It is a read for those seeking contemporary fiction with humour about motherhood, neighbourhood life and the need to belong.
