«La tristesse des anges» is the novel by Jón Kalman Stefánsson, published by Folio in paperback (432 pages, in French).
In rural Iceland, Jens the postman arrives frozen at a village and his next round takes him to the dangerous northern fjords. A young man beginning to discover poetry and desire is sent to accompany him; together they must cling to their distant loves to withstand the relentless nature. The narrative combines the snowstorm with an intense erotic warmth and a light that nourishes and tortures at once.
Second installment of the Heaven and Hell trilogy, continuation of «Entre ciel et terre». Work translated from Icelandic.
Recommended for readers of contemporary literary fiction and Nordic fiction with poetic prose.
